Bärenherz Stiftung
Since 2003, the Wiesbadener Bärenherz Stiftung (Wiesbaden Bearheart Foundation) has been supporting facilities for families with terminally ill children, in particular children’s hospices. It is a funding foundation established under private law.
A committed team of 28 salaried and voluntary workers source donations for the two Bärenherz children’s hospices and the Nesthäkchen children’s house. Sharing information about the work of the children’s hospices and their vital provision for severely ill children and their families also forms a large part of the foundation’s work.
Parents find respite and advice in the funded children’s hospices in Wiesbaden and Markkleeberg near Leipzig. Up to 22 severely ill children are lovingly cared for here by qualified staff, from diagnosis through to the death of the child and beyond. The Nesthäkchen children’s house in Laufenselden /Taunus is a long-term care facility for 22 seriously ill and disabled children and young people. Financial support from the foundation enables not only an enhanced range of treatments but also the granting of wishes expressed by the children.
The three facilities are only partially funded by nursing charges so the foundation currently distributes around 2.6 million euros each year. Support from donations forms the most important working base. This is the only way that the organisation can continue to offer future support to severely ill children and their families.
