Casting – The Foundation for Precision Metal Foils
High-Purity Alloys for Functional Foil Solutions
Casting the molten alloy is the first critical step in producing our technical metal foils. At EppsteinFOILS, we place particular emphasis on metallurgical control, alloy precision and homogeneous microstructures. Only a high-quality cast base enables the production of foils with ultra-tight tolerances, superior flatness and defined functional properties throughout the process chain.
Our cast pre-materials serve as the foundation for lead foils, tin foils and other non-ferrous metal foils used in medical technology, photovoltaics, materials testing, electronics and packaging.
Tailor-Made Alloys for Technical Applications
In our in-house alloying facility, we use only carefully inspected, approved raw materials. These are melted into customer-specific alloys – precisely matched to the required properties such as ductility, conductivity, solderability, shielding behavior or barrier performance.
The melt process allows us to precisely control the composition and purity of the metal matrix – with lasting impact on the material characteristics of the finished foil.
Chemical Analysis & Cleaning Procedures
Before casting, every melt undergoes thorough chemical analysis in our lab. Only after approval is the alloy subjected to a defined cleaning process that reliably removes slag, oxides and unwanted impurities. This ensures:
- a homogeneous grain structure,
- an oxide-reduced surface of the cast slabs,
- full compliance with strict functional and processing specifications.
Casting Technology for Reproducible Quality
The purified melt is cast under controlled cooling into precisely defined molds, creating so-called rolling slabs - the pre-product for the subsequent rolling process.
Our casting method guarantees:
- accurate formats with defined thicknesses,
- controlled solidification for optimal rollability,
- reproducible quality across batches,
- and an ideal base for foils with tight tolerances and superior surface quality.
Process Reliability Through Experience & Technology
With decades of experience in casting lead, tin and non-ferrous metals - combined with modern process monitoring systems - we ensure stable melt quality, rapid reaction times and seamless integration into our continuous production chain.
At EppsteinFOILS, casting is far more than a preliminary step - it is a quality anchor for all downstream processes such as rolling, laminating, converting and coating.
